The BC provincial government recently passed into law Bill 14 (the Workers' Compensation Amendment Act, 2011), which amends the mental stress provisions of the Workers’ Compensation Act (the “Act”) to address bullying and harassment in the workplace.

This article describes how “structured settlements” are used  in serious personal injury actions. Anyone with a serious injury claim should consider using a structured settlement. This article explains what a structured settlement is, and how they work.

This article focusses on certain tax liabilities of a company imposed under the Income Tax Act (the “ITA”) and the Excise Tax Act (the “ETA”) for which directors of the company can be held personally liable.  The directors of a company manage or supervise the management of the business and affairs of the company.  With this role of director come certain responsibilities and potential liabilities.

Would the world be a better place without lawsuits?  Your initial thought is probably, “YES!”  The words “good” and “lawsuit” do not go hand in hand, or so it seems.

My elderly father seems to be losing his ability to manage his financial affairs. I’m also worried that my step-sister is “borrowing” money from him.
